Item Description

A wonderful old classic Fluorite specimen from the famous Boltsburn Mine in Weardale. Many good sized, sharp, lustrous, gemmy cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 2.0 cm on edge are intergrown to create a showy, elongated display specimen. The color is hard to describe, as there is a mix of gentle golden-yellow, lilac and almost "smoky" hues. A light coating of soft tan colored Dolomite (according to the label, but it's very possibly Siderite) and tiny sparkling brass colored Chalcopyrite crystals can be seen on the back edge of the piece. Very little damage, a few corners are cleaved, but it's in great condition. This almost certainly 100 years old, or very close to it as this classic locality closed back in 1931. A fantastic cabinet sized display specimen of this wonderful old time material. Valued at $950 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#515). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
