Item Description
Here we have a fantastic deep purple colored cubic Fluorite specimen the famous Annabel Lee Mine in Southern Illinois. The front of the piece shows stacked / layered cubic crystal growth, giving the piece added depth and three-dimensional quality. When backlit, you can see the intense "grape jelly" purple color inside. The reverse side of the piece is partially re-crystallized ("re-healed"), but it's not complete, as one edge is contacted. A wonderful example of these classic specimens, which are fast disappearing from the market, now that the entire district is completely shut down. Ex Dave Bergman Collection. Dave is a Colorado miner (formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
