Item Description

Here we have a classic specimen from the Cäcilia Mine in Bavaria, which dates back to the 1930s. This wonderful small cabinet sized piece features sharp, lustrous, gemmy crystals of Fluorite which are cubic in habit, and show a soft yellowish-green hue when backlit. The outer edges of some of the Fluorites show a selective deposition of soft red iron oxide along with some small metallic golden Marcasite. The color of the Fluorite crystals in sunlight is a pleasing green, but more of a yellowish tone indoors. Great quality all around, with no major damage on the front/display side, and highly desirable on the market. Valued at $750-$950 retail. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #19505CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
