Item Description

These Grant County octahedrons of dark purple Fluorite have become more and more scarce over the years; there was a time when it was not hard to find one on the market, but they are just not around anymore. This one came out of the Judith Lynn Claim and features a rich coverage of saturated purple colored octahedra measuring up to 1.6 cm across. The Fluorites have an almost "blistered" appearance on the surface of the crystals. If you flip the piece over, you can see a small amount of green Fluorite on the underside of the piece. Some of the crystals show intense reddish-purple hues with backlit. Great shape, minor damage, and a classic representative example of these wonderful Fluorites. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
