Item Description
The iconic and notably colorful Fluorite specimens found in various mines in Southern Illinois are regarded among the most beautiful examples of the species, not just form the United States, but the world. The range of saturated colors observed, along with the excellent, eye-catching crystallization and superb display specimens has made them classics. This entire area is closed down, so no more mining will take place, and we will never see these amazing specimens again. This piece is a beautiful showy big cabinet sized display specimen featuring fine, sharp, lustrous, very gemmy, cubic crystals with a combination of deep purple and blue hues. There are some isolated "ink spot" inclusions that can be seen when the crystals are backlit. Minor Sphalerite and Chalcopyrite are also present. Very good quality, no major damage that I can see on the display, and the color and gemminess make this a desirable representation of these now hard to find pieces. The back and the underside of the piece are largely re-crystallized ("re-healed"), the piece is actually close to being a complete "floater". Valued $3,000.
