Fluorite (classic locality) (multi-colored crystals)

Item Description

A good-sized, classic and showy Fluorite specimen from this well-known Austrian locality in the Alps. This is a great example of not judging a book by it's cover, as the sharp, well-formed cubic crystals on this specimen have an somewhat less than desirable dark greenish-brown hue on the surface, but when they're backlit, they show a beautiful combination of a rich purple interiors with a sky blue shade on the outer edges. The crystals measure up to 3.0 cm. The cubes have lightly stepped-growth faces. The piece actually crystallized on the back, so it's nearly a "floater". A wonderful piece of this classic material, and certainly worth picking up if you collect worldwide Fluorites.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#109 O), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
