Fluorite (classic gemmy twins)

The world-famous Rogerley Fluorite specimens are some of the finest examples of crystallized Fluorite from any locality. This famed locality has produced what are certainly the pinnacle of Fluorite from the English lead mines at Weardale in the modern era of mineral collecting. Here we have an attractive cabinet display specimen featuring sharp, glassy, very gemmy, interpenetrant twinned crystals (on a cube-diagonal twinning axis) - as often seen from this locality - with rich emerald green color associated with minor grey Galena on matrix. This penetrating cubic twinned form is part of what makes these specimens so desirable, along with the excellent color, which changes into the classic purple shade in sunlight (daylight fluorescence) . The piece also shows the classic bright purple fluorescence under UV light, which is often seen in Rogerley Fluorites. Most of the crystals are pristine, and the only real damage is around the periphery where it was separated from the pocket wall. The largest single crystal measures 1.2 cm.
