Item Description

A large and unusually colored fluorite specimen from the Swiss Alps! One of the prides of the Lockhart collection, and something I have long admired as he built it, is the breadth and depth of this suite of Swiss minerals. We have all seen various colors and styles of the famous Swiss pink fluorites, but when have you seen blue fluorite from Switzerland? This is a remarkable cabinet sized large display specimen, from a famous (now) tourist cave in the Rhine Valley. This is a totally different geological environment than all the other Swiss (Alpine) fluorites we are familiar with, and seldom seen for sale. Sold to Brent by Siber & Siber of Switzerland, from an older collection. From Brent himself, who built one of the finest and most diverse detailed collections of Swiss minerals in the USA, with such context: They are very different to most Swiss Fluorites as they come from sedimentary rocks in the north part of the country. I'm not totally sure, but I think they are hosted in Mesozoic limestones in a karst feature (...I'm guessing that the limestones are probably part of the Jura, the type local for Jurassic.).
