Item Description
This mine may be best known for its distinctive and unique colorless Fluorite specimens. For a species that occurs in virtually every color of the rainbow, colorless Fluorite crystals are rare, and the specimens from the Nikolaevskiy Mine are by far the best and most desirable of said specimens. Fluorite is typically colored by impurities, so these are essentially pure CaF. Many of the crystals I have seen from this mine are simple textbook cubes, but this specimen features a beautiful group of WATER-CLEAR, sharp, lustrous, cuboctahedral crystals, which is rare in my experience with this material. The crystals are sitting on a small amount of matrix, and they are simply impossible to accurately photograph. They are just so gemmy and "glass like", their quality simply cannot be duplicated in the photos. One of the cubes is contacted, but overall, the piece is in great shape and is amazingly eye-catching for a colorless mineral. These pieces seem to have dried up on the market, and no Fluorite suite is complete without one of these specimens in it.
