Item Description

The now famous Fluorites from the Minggang Mine in China are some of the most distinctive examples of the species from any Chinese locality due to the fact that they have a distinctive purple color, and they're oddly botryoidal in habit. There are not many places in the world where botryoidal Fluorite has been found, and the Minggang specimens are certainly among the best examples. This piece features a coverage of attractive medium purple colored botryoidal Fluorite aggregates covering nearly all sides of the underling matrix. I love the fact that there is an isolated "finger" flaring out of the piece, giving it three-dimensional depth and fine aesthetics. The only damage is around the edges of the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. A great example of these now hard to find Fluorites. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0549) who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
