Item Description

An old classic from the Huanzala Mine in Peru dating back to the 1970s. These beautiful bi-colored crystals are a signature from this locality, and truly some of the most iconic Fluorites from any Peruvian locality. This thumbnail sized specimen hosts a few very gemmy octahedral crystals ranging up to 1.4 cm, which show attractive green and pink hues, associated with minor Pyrite. The piece is not 100% damage-free, as there is a bit of roughness in a few spots, but you don't see many of these on the market now, and if you're a fan of Fluorite, these specimens are a must-have for their beautiful color combination. As mentioned, this piece dates back to the 1970s and comes from the collection of the well-known mineral dealer and collector Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar (1946-2007), who was the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite. Rich had a strong presence in South America in the 1970s and imported many minerals during that period. He was the first US dealer to personally visit and import minerals from the Quiruvilca Mine many years ago.
