Item Description
A showy and good-quality small cabinet Fluorite specimen from this classic French locality. These distinctive and beautiful Fluorites from the La Barre Mine are not terribly common on the market today, and the entry on mindat.org states that this is an ancient Fluorite mine, which, "from 1918 until 1948, produced 80 000 tons of ore". The specimen hosts several many sharp, rather gemmy, well-formed, textbook cubic crystals of Fluorite with a gorgeous blue color on the edges and golden hue in the center. The largest Fluorite measures 1.7 cm on edge. The piece is in very good condition, very little damage I can find, outside of the periphery where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. Crystals can be seen on both sides of the piece and they glow with excellent internal clarity when backlit.
Ex Brian Kosnar collection.
