Fluorite (beautiful crystals) on Quartz (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

A beautiful display specimen of these now famous Fluorites that were found in 2014 at the No. 4 Mine at Huanggang. The configuration and color distinction of these pieces set them apart from other Fluorite/ Quartz combinations from in China. This small cabinet specimen features mesmerizing inky blue, highly modified, almost rounded, Fluorite crystals are covering a white prismatic Quartz crystals with secondary almost "cactus"--like overgrowth for dramatic effect and contrast. Looking at the bottom and back of the piece it becomes obvious that the white quartz druse fashions as a cape over a core of an earlier generation of large, translucent Quartz crystals. The color and textural contrast between the inky blue, complex Fluorite crystals (which measure up to 6 mm) and the snow-white Quartz creates a well-balanced and intriguing specimen. No damage, save the bottom where it detached from the pocket wall. These are no longer being found and are a MUST HAVE for any fan of Chinese minerals or worldwide Fluorites. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
