Fluorite (beautiful color) (classic material)

When it comes to contemporary localities, the famous Le Burg Mine in France was a powerhouse, producing some of the finest, largest display specimens of Fluorite from anywhere in Europe. That's not to say it's a "new" locality, as the mine had been known since before the Middle Ages for its copper content, but operated for approximatley 50 years (closing in 2006) with the specificn intent to mine Fluorite. The industrial use of Fluorite is mainly for flux for smelting, and in the production of certain glasses and enamels, but Le Burg produced such fine specimens that many were too beautiful to send to the crusher. This piece is a wonderful small cabinet of this classic material featuring sharp, lustrous, gemmy, beautiful rich blue colored cubes of Fluorite with no matrix to speak of, just a bit of associated Quartz, but that's all you need for a fine piece from Le Burg. I can see minor edge wear on the display side, and the back of the piece is actually partially re-crystallized. The piece displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. A gorgeous piece of this well-known and now hard to find material from France.
