Item Description

The famous Heights Mine in Weardale / Stanhope dates back to the 1850s, and even though it closed over 100 years ago, field collectors would often go into the abandoned tunnels searching for specimens until it was sealed off in the 1970s. This piece is a lovely thumbnail featuring a pair of incredibly sharp, well-formed, lustrous, gemmy cubes which are essentially colorless throughout the majority of the crystals, but the exterior edges show a gorgeous blue-green color zoning. The piece is in very good shape, with only a little roughness on the top / display side (it's contacted on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall). If you collect thumbnails, Fluorites or minerals of the UK, you can't afford to miss out on such an eye-catching specimen from this classic locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12364). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
