Fluorite and Dolomite (RARE Alabama!)

Item Description

Extremely RARE and showy combination from the Airport Quarry at Huntsville, Alabama! Two clusters of intergrown, translucent, reddish-pink to brown Fluorite cubes with satin luster faces, to 1.4 cm wide are aesthetically surrounded by a rich field of pearlescent, pastel-pink Dolomite rhombohedrons. The Bangor Limestone matrix is Mississippian in age (360-323 MYA). Ex John Whatley Collection and acquired in a swap with Credo Schwab in 1990. John was a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). He had many interests and hobbies. His favorite hobby was collecting rocks and minerals and he was a member of the Augusta and Aiken, SC Gem and Mineral Society.
