Item Description

The famous Yaogangxian Mine had produced some of the most iconic minerals of any Chinese locality. This specimen hosts several highly lustrous, very gemmy, cubic crystals of Fluorite with light purple interiors and darker purple coloring on the exterior edges. Minor Muscovite can be seen on the base of the piece, but there is no matrix. The piece has a wonderful aesthetic quality with Fluorites flaring off the main crystal in the center. Priced at $800 in the inventory. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
