Item Description

A wonderful specimen from this unlikely Mississippi Valley Type (MVT) deposit in Morocco. For reference, an MVT deposit is typically a lead-zinc orebody hosted in limestone/dolostone rock, the Elmwood Mine in Tennessee is a classic example. This piece almost looks like it could have come from Elmwood as it features good sized, sharp, lustrous, light purple colored cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 4.3 cm on edge, with virtually no matrix on the back. The crystals are very gemmy, virtually water clear in areas. A bit of iron oxide can be seen on the surface of the crystals, creating a pleasing contrast. A few spots of damage can be seen, but the piece is largely in very good condition. Most people don't think about Fluorite specimens when it comes to minerals from Morocco, and a piece of this size with robust fine quality crystals is certainly desirable.
