Item Description

A wonderful big cabinet display specimen featuring several big, sharp, gemmy blue/purple and golden "phantomed" cubic crystals of Fluorite free of matrix. The Fluorites are just gorgeous when backlit showing their rich internal hues and perfect zoning. The largest cube measures 7.5 cm on edge. It should be noted that while the corner of the specimen may look damaged, there's actually only a very small cleave, while the rest of the corner is completely crystallized (probably recrystallized in the pocket). The rest of the piece is in notably fine shape, with only a couple imperfections here and there, which is hard to find for a specimen this size. Even the back of the specime shows crystallization, with minor attached Barite(?). As is the case with virtually all Fluorites, but especially those from southern Illinois, the color looks better in sunlight, showing RICH blue hues, and not nearly as purple as the photos might indicate from the indoor lighting. This piece was mined in the mid to late 1980s. This locality is well known for its Fluorite specimens, though they are now few and far between on the market. This area is completely closed down and will never produce these specimens again. Valued at $3000 in the inventory. PLEASE NOTE: This piece weighs 1,600 grams (3.5 pounds), so there will be an additional shipping charge, please keep this in mind when bidding.
