Item Description

A superb locality piece from a famous, but defunct, California locality for fluorite: Charming and showy well formed translucent, lustrous apple-green Fluorite crystal wrapped around a contrasting granite matrix with minor clear Quartz crystals. The large, 5.1 cm across, single Fluorine has a cuboctahedron form with magnificent stepped growth features on most sides. The high translucency allows in depth viewing into the crystal as well as an almost ethereal glow when backlit. There is some slight bruising and interrupted growth on the rear face due to contacting, presumably against matrix. This is easy to overlook given the great condition of the remaining faces and the quality of this hard to find classic California Fluorite from the Felix Mine. This beautiful Fluorite specimen has a captivating texture and form that is highlighted by its desirable rich color for the locality. A great addition to any Fluorite collection. It also has a purple fluorescence. Collected by the Gochenour brothers in the 1980s or early 1990s, and then in the Bob Reynolds collection.
