Fluorite

Here is a highly unusual specimen of old Chinese fluorite. It is deeply colored with an amber to root beer yellow-brown hue, and positively glows when backlit! In flat light, it looks brown, but with any good backlighting it is shockingly strong color and really quite unlike any other modern Chinese fluorite find. It is complete all around, with no damage on this large display surface. Those white spots you see are minor secondary growths of fluorite crystals, of a white color, 1-5mm in size. Kurt bought most of his China material in the early years of exports in the 1990s. From the color, and texture of the fluorite; and from my experience seeing these over 30-plus years, I am presuming it is from an old find in Henan Province known for such dark yellow fluorite of various shapes (his catalog info was wrong in any case, as are so many Chinese specimen labels from the 1990s). However, the crystals are so sharp and well developed, this would be highly unusual in context that most such specimens were not as well developed. So it is a special piece, a special 1990s fluorite, and unusual even among thousands of other fluorites from China.
