Fluorite

Item Description

Delightful plate of intergrown but well defined crystals of lustrous, transparent, "ice-cube" clear Fluorite cubes from a classic Spanish locality for fluorites. The optic clarity and lack of color is a sign of chemical purity in Fluorite, which is notably rare in nature, as the majority of Fluorite crystals have impurities that give them their color. The cubes have slightly beveled edges with the largest cube in the center measuring 3 cm on edge. While there are a multiple rough spots (minor damage or wear) here and there across the specimen they are visible at close examination and hard to see at first because of the clarity here; do not impact the display from a distance due to the clear transparency of the crystals. There are only a few worldwide locations that produce colorless Fluorite specimens. Some of the crystals have really subtle, interesting edge and corner modifications as well, as is classic for the location. This is a wonderful example of the clear "pure" Fluorites from the Emilio mine in Spain. Ex. Paul Zerfass Collection (#118).
