Fluorite

Item Description

This specimen is labeled as coming from a place called "Iron Flats" in Stanhope (Weardale), England, but i can't find a specific listing for this locality, but if anybody out there has some insight as to the details of this locality designation, please reach out and let us know. This piece features a coverage of sharp, well-formed, gemmy, light green colored cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 1.6 cm on edge, on a thin layer of matrix. Some of the crystals are included with an unknown mineral (pocket clay?) creating a soft silvery-white hue. In sunlight, the crystals show a bit of soft purple colored daylight fluorescence, even the silvery-white crystals. The piece is in good shape, though not damage free, but still very presentable and eye-catching.

Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
