Fluorite

Item Description

This specimen is a single fluorite crystal that looks like nothing so much as a lavender ice cube. It is a very old specimen, probably late 1990s or early 2000s, and quite different in style from crystals we see today here. It is complete, and actually is transparent with minimal light. It is not the sharpness on edging we usually see from Yaogangxian fluorites, but has subtle detail that adds texture or patterning to the faces. It is not the normal color either, a more pastel hue. It comes from the collection of Dr. Steve Smale, who was one of the first westerners buying such things on the ground in China, and amassed a large locality suite which we recently purchased.
