Item Description
A really unusual specimen of Fluorapophyllite from India. Typically we are used to seeing prismatic, gemmy, green crystals, but this one is notably opaque with more of a muted yellow-green hue and a blocky pseudo-cubic habit. Additionally, there is a wonderfully contrasting brick red hue at the base of the piece which can be seen all over the reverse side. The main focus is on the predominant 3.1 cm crystal at the top of the piece, which sits beautifully above the others, creating depth and a wonderful three-dimensional form. For the most part, the specimen is in great condition on the display side with little damage to the main crystals. The luster is almost "velvety" and somewhat directional, which is best seen when the piece is rotated in the light. Valued at $800 in the inventory. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) with a label from noted collector Robert Nowakowski. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
