Item Description
Minerals from the Deccan Trap are among the most beautiful and well-crystallized examples of their respective species. The majority of the minerals from this area are zeolites, but species like Apophyllite are actually not a zeolite, though they are often found in association. This attractive cabinet specimen features several fine quality, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, pseudo-cubic (blocky tetragonal) crystals of Fluorapophyllite-(K) measuring up to 1.3 cm on edge associated with a 3.7 cm, soft peach colored, "sword"-shaped Stilbite crystal sitting on drusy Quartz on dark brown basalt matrix. The most significant and attractive aspect of the specimen is that the Apophyllite crystals have a distinct RED color internally (caused by an unknown inclusion), which is exceptionally rare in my experience with not only Apophyllite from India, but worldwide. If you're a fan of trap rock minerals, Indian minerals or just uniquely different styles / colors of well known minerals, do not miss out on this one. It's an older specimen dating back 30+ years, and comes with an old label from Dudley Blauwet indicating the unusual locality "Chandwad" near Nasik. Priced in the inventory at $850.
