Item Description
A hard to find specimen of Fluorapophyllite-(K) from the large quarry at what was once called Marienberg, but it now known as Marianska Skala. I've seen a few of these over the years, but they are notably absent from the market today. This piece is loaded with a rich coverage of sharp, lustrous, well-formed, blocky, white colored, crystals of Fluorapophyllite-(K) measuring up to 5 mm sitting in / on a vug of volcanic (phonolite ?) rock matrix. No major damage anywhere outside of the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket. Many people think of Apophyllite as a zeolite species, but it's actually not a zeolite, and doesn't even belong to any group of minerals. A really good quality piece for any fan of Czech minerals or worldwide Apophyllites Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#918). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
