Item Description
I know that Indian Zeolites and associated minerals are everywhere, but you must appreciate them for what they are. They are simply some of the finest crystallized examples of their respective species extant. This piece is actually from a find from the late 1990s. It features a few blocky, colorless, sharp, well-formed crystals of Fluorapophyllite-(K) measuring up to 2.1 cm with several cream colored radial "balls" of Gyrolite measuring up to about 6 mm across sitting on "finger"-like groups of crystallized pale green color Prehnite matrix. The piece has no major damage that I can find, and it's crystallized all the way around, making it a complete "floater". This combination / association is not commonly seen from India, especially these days. For reference, Apophyllite, Prehnite nor Gyrolite are Zeolite species, but they are often found in association with Zeolites, so it's important to make that distinction when referencing minerals from the Deccan Trap. One day (eventually) India will not produce any more of these Zeolites (and associated species), and they will more than likely receive great recognition for being the amazing display specimens that they are. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures". This piece was priced at $1,400 in our inventory.
