Item Description

The Pune District in India has produced supreme crystallized examples of various zeolites and associated minerals (it should be noted that Apophyllite is not a zeolite, but is often found in association with minerals like Stilbite, Heulandite, etc.) for several decades. Here we have a showy display piece featuring sharp, lustrous, well-formed, blocky, prismatic crystals of light green colored Fluorapophyllite-(K) measuring up to 3.1 cm on matrix. The Apophyllite crystals have a lovely minty-green hue (due to minor vanadium content), giving them a characteristic look that is often seen from the Deccan Trap. Small white bladed crystals of Stilbite can be seen on the specimen for a nice touch (mistakenly labeled as Heulandite). No major damage I can see, very showy and just a great overall example of this now classic material. For reference, the finest Apophyllite crystals in the world have been found in the Maharashtra state of India.
From the collection of John Dagenais.
