A stunning Fluorapophyllite specimen from an old and now classic find in the mid-1980s. They were the first great apophyllites from India and STILL hold their own, and stand out for combination of mint color, glass look, and sharp points: This superb piece is characterized by a superior gemmy mint green saturated color and ultra bright luster, high even for this wonderful material. The sharp and terminated prismatic crystals stand upright on white Stilbite for accent, with the tallest crystals measuring 1.8 cm in length. The nearly pristine cluster is sandwiched between matrix on both sides. The Fluorapophyllite crystals glow an intense green under bright lighting. Many collectors consider these early specimens to be some of the best of the species, nearly 40 years later, and they do not turn up often. This small cabinet piece is a collector’s jewel that has been recycled from the Heinz Gugeler Collection and was from the De Natura ( Les Presmyk) dealer stock. It is valued $1500-1800. Interestingly, one of these, from this same exact pocket (you can tell by style) was the first $500 specimen purchased by Rob Lavinsky as a teenager at an Ohio mineral show.
