Item Description
An old-time cabinet specimen from the 1960's-1970's finds at this classic Mexican locality. Matrix Apatites from Cerro de Mercado of any significance are extremely hard to obtain and those with large gem crystals such as this are even more difficult to acquire. This piece hosts a robust, well-formed crystal of glassy and gemmy, pear-green Fluorapatite that measures 3.3 x 2.0 x 1.6cm anchored nicely into the matrix with an adjacent, perfectly transparent, 2.0 x 1.3 x 0.9cm gem crystal! Combined, they make for a remarkable duo placed on this Quartz-Chalcedony-Hematite matrix! Both crystals display first and second order prisms with pyramid terminations. Classic old material, seldom found in this size with such good color saturation and on matrix! The main crystal is complete all around save a couple of tiny nicks and then a minor amount of chipping at the very base near the its contact with Quartz. The smaller crystal doesn't have any micro-chipping; however, one prism face on the backside is cleanly sheared revealing its glass, gem character. Excellent and large for this historic material. valued $1000-1200
