Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Fluorapatite from this little-known locality in the high mountains of Pakistan. This small cabinet features sharp, lustrous, fairly thick, nearly colorless hexagonal tabular crystals measuring up to 1.8 cm across, which are associated with dark brown rhombic crystals of Siderite, but my favorite aspect of the piece is that there is a little group of reticulated "Sagenite" Rutile on the back! The Apatites have beautiful morphology with attractive little pyramidal modifications around the perimeter of the crystals. Additionally the piece shows a unique pinkish-purple fluorescence under UV light, which is notably rare to see in Apatite. No major damage and very showy! This is the ONLY matrix specimen of this material that we've had to offer. This is "Alpine-type" material, reminiscent of the piece from the European Alps, and it would make a great addition to any collection of worldwide Apatites or minerals from Pakistan.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#69 AP), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
