Fluorapatite (uncommon locality)

If someone mentions, the word Paraíba, I think a lot of people will conjure images of electric colored Copper-bearing Tourmaline crystals and gems. With that said, there are actually plenty of other species are found in the state of Paraíba, including some beautiful blue Fluorapatite crystals. This toenail sized specimen is from a fairly recent discovery at Campina Grande. Many sharp, lustrous, gemmy, intense blue colored hexagonal crystals of Fluorapatite measuring up to 6 mm are sitting atop bladed white Albite matrix. The intensity of the color in the Fluorapatite crystals is significant, as smaller crystals like this are often very pale regardless of the hue, so it's a big deal to see such a vivid blue shade in these crystals. A cool locality piece that would make a nice addition to any Brazilian collection, a phosphate suite, or a collection of worldwide Apatites.
