Item Description
Fluorapatite crystals from Akchatau in Kazakhstan are incredibly hard to find on the market, and this piece may very well be the best one we've had to offer in terms of quality and aesthetics. The piece hosts a notably sharp, highly lustrous, robust, hexagonal prism of a pale pinkish-yellow hue measuring 1.3 cm, aesthetically perched atop a matrix of cream colored Albite with dark semi-metallic brownish-black Muscovite. The Apatite crystal is in excellent condition, with no major damage that I can see, and it's sitting so aesthetically on the matrix. It's also a rather GEMMY crystal as well, nearly water-clear on one end. I love the fact that this piece sits up on its own without the aid of a base or clay! A must have specimen for any fan of worldwide Apatites. I would put a retail value between $2,500-$3,500 on this one for the topnotch quality, great aesthetics, and the fact that you never see them for sale these days. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
