Fluorapatite (rare color)

Item Description

This is a superbly crystallized, lustrous, and translucent dark olive-colored fluorapatite crystal. The color is unusual, with an oily luster rather than the more common glassy appearance. Black, needle-like inclusions parallel to the c-axis add to its uniqueness, and these inclusions create a captivating cat's eye effect when lit from the right angle. This remarkable crystal was part of a small collection of apatite specimens sold in Denver in 2014, making it a rare and intriguing find. Note it is complete except one small shallow cleave on back termination. Ex Jingnan (Tom) Zhang.
