Fluorapatite on Quartz

Panasqueira is one of the great localities for Fluorapatite in the world. The distinctive and beautiful crystals from this area have been staples in collections for years. This piece is a wonderful large miniature / small cabinet sized piece featuring attractive, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, striated hexagonal crystals of Fluorapatite of a lovely muted green hue measuring up to 2.1 cm long sitting on a stout Quartz crystal. Most of the Apatites are in very good shape, but there is a bit of roughness in a few spots. Overall a very presentable and eye-catching piece of this classic material. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased.
