Item Description

A 1.6 cm, translucent, fine purple color (with colorless terminations) doubly-termianted crystal of Fluorapatite aesthetically sits atop a group of well-crystallized silvery Muscovite and Quartz matrix. Purple is by far the most desirable of all colors of Apatite, and is for all intents and purpose, the most difficult to obtain. This piece is about as aesthetic as it gets for the material, and is certainly more attractive than nearly any other purple Apatite I've seen from Afghanistan from the standpoint of displayability. The Apatite itself have some interrupted growth on the prism faces, it almost looks like a few crystals of Musocivte may have separated away at some point. Great shape overall, and very showy. This piece comes from the PERSONAL COLLECTION (not inventory) of Herb Obodda (specimen #1221), and is a very worthwhile representation of this beloved material.
