Fluorapatite on Hyalite Opal (Panczner Coll.)

Item Description

This is a competitive level thumbnail specimen of classic old Mexican yellow-green apatite, because of the shocking gemminess combined with unusually sharp form. It is clear like glass, whereas most are murky or translucent at best. This is literally a GEM crystal. It is so sharp it looks carved. What makes it special, more than most other survivors of an old era of collecting here, is the bit of attached matrix of sparkling white hyalite opal as an accent and contrast. So many of these are simply singles, but this is a more special thumbnail, of a higher level for the small association. From the competitive display thumbnail collection of Bill and Sharon Panczner: and they should know about Mexico as he literally authored the book on the subject. They had a fine thumbnail collection and would have seen hundreds of these at the time, to choose the two they did (this and one other) in the collection. Long lost, the collection resurfaced recently. This is a deceptively important Mexican thumbnail specimen of high level.
