Fluorapatite on Calcite (ex Al Kidwell Collection)

This is a wonderful matrix display specimen of the old classics Fluorapatites from the Yates Mine. The piece was originally labeled as coming from "Huddersfield, Quebec", but this was often the case for these pieces, and you can see even though there is no actual locality at Huddersfield, it does have an entry that leads to the Yates Mine on mindat ( https://www.mindat.org/feature-5978122.html ). This piece hosts a pair of classic, fairly sharp, semi-lustrous, rich green color, hexagonal prismatic crystals of Fluorapatite measuring up to 4.7 cm on typical orange Calcite matrix. Both crystals are doubly-terminated and undamaged as far as I can see with the naked eye. A showy matrix piece of this material is seldom seen in today's market, and this piece dates back 60 years, as the label on the reverse side of the specimen dates it back to 1962. Don't miss out! From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
