Fluorapatite on Calcite

Item Description

Classic and dramatic large apatite on calcite from this famous extinct Quebec locale. A 11.7 cm doubly terminated apatite crystal is aesthetically set on the contrasting sugary light salmon-pink calcite matrix. The lustrous textbook hexagonal, slightly translucent prism has typical layering with mottled brown and green hues. The green zones are more translucent and add character. The crystal is complete all-around and pristine. The exposed termination has some embedded calcite, but there is no damage, per se. A very fine and sculptural large combination example of the species and locale. See the 1981 Mineralogical Record article on the locale in Vol. 12, No. 6.
