Fluorapatite on Albite

Item Description

A wonderful small cabinet sized piece from the famous 2007 find at the Sapo Mine. These specimens are iconic for the unique color and style of Fluorapatite crystals. This piece features sharp, lustrous, attractive Fluorapatite crystals nicely placed on a matrix of lustrous white bladed Albite with minor associated Quartz. The Fluorapatites are nicely isolated and measure up to 1.3 cm across. These crystals have hexagonal thick tabular form, and are translucent when backlit with a beautiful forest green color. The crystals are actually color zoned, as the exterior edges are virtually colorless, with the rest of the crystals showing that deep green hue. No major damage that I can see. The Apatites show light orange fluorescence under SW UV light, but we couldn't get a decent photo / video of it. Very choice and aesthetic example from this famous discovery.
