Item Description
Apatite is found in many different kinds of environments around the world, in a wide range of color. In the Alps, particularly in Austria, some of the most desirable specimens are the beautiful yet elusive Apatite crystals. This piece is a wonderful "Alpine-type" Apatite specimen from a lesser known locality in the high mountains of Pakistan. This piece was mined in the middle of 2016. These are gorgeous Apatite specimens feature eye-catching inclusions of "Byssolite" that are incredibly similar to the classic and desirable specimens from the Knappenwand in Austria. We actually purchased several excellent pieces from this discovery several years ago, and this is a great example. This particular piece is a thumbnail sized specimen featuring a sharp, well-formed, fairly thick, tabular, hexagonal crystal of GEMMY colorless Fluorapatite which is included with brilliant rich green colored fibrous Actinolite (variety: "Byssolite") to create a gorgeous two-tone effect. When the piece is backlit, the color really glows, and this particular shade of green is almost never seen in Apatite, even if it caused from the inclusion of another mineral. Both of the "c" pinacoid faces are rather lustrous, along with the prism faces and when I look around the specimen, and actually show a cool radial hexagonal growth pattern on the surface. The piece is nearly a "floater" as the base is essentially re-crystallized ("re-healed") where it separated from the pocket wall, so it's technically complete all around. There are only two places in the world where I've seen crystals of Apatite with these beautiful green "Byssolite" inclusions, Austria and Pakistan, so don't miss out on this eye-catching piece with wonderful color.
