Item Description
From the famous Slyudyanka locality near Lake Baikal here we have a notably THICK partial Fluorapatite crystal with robust hexagonal prismatic faces and the classic greenish-blue color. Internally, the crystal shows decent translucency in areas when backlit, and the surface shows a slightly vitreous luster. Both ends are contacted, as it seems the termination grew into the pocket wall and didn't fully crystallize, but it's still a "fat" crystal and would make a decent reference addition to an Apatite suite or a collection of Russian minerals. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. Among other accomplishments, Geary was responsible for discovering some of the finest gem grade deep blue Aquamarine crystals in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho - which remain arguably the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
