Item Description

This piece came with a label stating it was from South Waziristan in Pakistan, but I can't find a listing of any occurrence of pink Apatite in that area. With that said, it's hard to know exactly where the piece is from, because it does resemble other pink Apatites from various localities in Pakistan, so we're not going to put a specific locality on this one for now. If somebody out there knows definitively where it's from, please don't hesitate to contact us. A wonderful group of sharp, lustrous, gemmy, beautiful pink color, tabular crystals of Fluorapatite measuring about 1.1 cm long is neatly nestled into a semi-vug of the underlying matrix. No damage that I can see, and very attractive up close. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
