Item Description

The Panasqueira Mines in Portugal have been the source of what are certainly some of the most distinctive and iconic examples of Fluorapatite ever seen. These attractive specimens are beloved by collectors for their unique form and easily recognizable style. This large miniature / small cabinet sized piece features an unusually elongated prismatic crystal (most Apatites from Panasqueira are tabular), which is actually doubly-terminated and has a soft silvery hue. The crystal measures 3.8 cm long, and aesthetically sits on matrix covered by sparkling metallic golden Pyrite crystals are little grey curved rhombs of Calcite. A beautiful example of these classic specimens from what might the most well-known locality in the entire country. From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
