Fluorapatite (classic material) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

The Foote Mine in North Carolina is one of the great phosphate pegmatite localities in the United States. Many of my favorite micro crystals of colorful and rare species are found at this mine. This plate features sharp, lustrous, hexagonal, gemmy golden-brown to sherry colored Fluorapatite crystals, to 7 mm across, associated with Fairfieldite. The largest crystal is very good sized for the locality, and it's a lovely colorful specimen as well. Up close the piece is beautiful, and the best of these specimens are some of the finest crystallized Apatites from any locality in the US in my mind. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4860). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
