Fluorapatite (bi-colored crystals) (RARE locality specimen) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

The Cryo-Genie Mine is best known for its beautiful crystals Tourmalines, found in wide array of habits, styles and colors, but Fluorapatite specimens are remarkably RARE from this famous pegmatite locality in San Diego County. This thumbnail sized specimen is a fantastic example of this highly elusive material featuring sharp, lustrous, prismatic hexagonal crystals of Fluorapatite measuring up to 5 mm long showing a gorgeous rich lilac purple hue in the center, and rarely seen soft sky blue terminations! PLEASE NOTE:  The photos make the terminations appear green, but they are much more blue in person.  These are essentially "blue cap" Apatites, which is rare enough in nature, but add in the obscure locality, and this a VERY worthwhile and incredibly hard to find specimen that would fit nicely into any thumbnail suite, a collection of Apatites or a suite of San Diego County material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
