Item Description
Fluorapatite is found in a wide range of colors from many world localities, but a large percentage of people agree that the most desirable hue for the species is purple. There are a handful of world localities that produce fine purple crystals, and I'll be most collectors don't immediately think about the beautiful crystals from the Foote Mine in North Carolina. This large cabinet specimen hosts many sharp, lustrous, well-formed, striated hexagonal crystals of Fluorapatite (the largest one is on the back and measrues 7 mm) which are actually bi-colored with a lovely purple hue in the center, and soft greenish-gold tones on each end. There is some damage on this piece, it's not pristine, but you don't see a lot of large cabinet sized specimens of this material, so it's definitely worth picking up if you're a fan of phosphates, Apatites or minerals from this famous locality. From the collection Jack Eaker (whose label says the specimen was identified by Jason Smith).
