Item Description
Most mineral collectors would agree that the purples represent the most sought-after family of colors for Fluorapatites, and these are seldom found from any locality. This miniature is composed of rich, lavender-purple crystals that range up to 6 mm in size, and they rise in a stacked cluster that is really splendid, made all the more so by appreciating that it even survived the mining process. Highly lustrous, the reflectivity of the multiple prism faces catches the eye immediately, if the gorgeous color already hadn't! Known also for its fluorescence, these crystals have a varying UV response that is a combination of yellow, orange, and pink. There is a little bit of wear along some edges, but not at all visible to the naked eye. Interestingly, Apatite is found in a wide range of mineralogical environments from ore bodies to pegmatites to metamorphic deposits. This classic and aesthetic Afghani Fluorapatite is probably from the well-known Mawi pegmatite. 1990s vintage.
