Fluorapatite

Item Description

Fluorapatite is found in a wide range of colors, in many different kinds of geological environments, but it seems the fine purple crystals are largely seen in pegmatites, whether it be the Pulsifer Quarry in Maine, Golconda pegmatite field in Brazil, or even the various pegmatites in Afghanistan. I think it's safe to say that purple is the most sought after and desirable hue for the species. This piece is a lovely example of said material featuring an exposed vug filled with sharp, lustrous, striated hexagonal crystals of medium purple colored Fluorapatite measuring up to 6 mm, surrounded by Quartz and Feldspar matrix. Most of the crystals are undamaged, but there is forgivable roughness around the edge of the vug where it was separated from the rest of the pocket when the piece was removed from the ground.
